Orders, Upgrades and Achievements

This week I reworked the prestige system, adjusted how upgrades work and added achievements!

Orders

Orders screen

I had talked about "Prestige Upgrades" in the last one and that has changed a bit. There aren't really prestiges... I added the concept of an "Order", like filling an order at a restaurant.

When you start the game you are just dropped into the first one. Once you complete it, you see the Orders screen. From there you can choose a new order to complete and — if you've unlocked them — spend your papers (the currency you earn from completing orders) on persistent upgrades.

Upgrades

Those persistent upgrades will make the "In run" or "In order" upgrades more powerful. The pictured Doodler Boost Enhancer will add a multiple to the Doodler Boost while completing an order. This means 20% per Doodler boost level instead of 10%.

Achievements

Achievements are now a thing in the Lines Game! I wanted a way to unlock things and something to onboard the player and give them some hints of what to do next in the game.

You start the game with only one lines producer and one "in order" upgrade. After you get 5 Doodlers, you unlock Scribblers. Completing your first order unlocks the 10 second boost. And eventually the screen fills up with lines producers and upgrades as you unlock them.

Up next

While not quite how I want it, the game is playable and the next step is to get people to play it. First close friends then expanding out in Feb. With close friends I'm hoping to catch UI bugs, find where things are confusing and generally see if the game is fun.

Let the playtests begin!
